Tips for new runners

Running is a fabulous total body cardio conditioning workout, but let’s face it, it can be boring, challenging and hard on your joints.  Too make sure your running experience is and stays good, here are a few tips:

1. Taking shorter steps will help you land on the middle of your foot and help your natural shock absorbers work.

2. Buy a bigger than normal shoe for running.  Feet swell when running and your normal shoe size can become uncomfortable.  A half size can make a world of difference especially in summer heat!

3. Don’t go solo!  Studies show that we like to do things in groups and are more likely to stick with something longer when we have a buddy and accountability!

4. Invest in some good socks! Avoid cotton which holds moisture and dampness – invest in some light weight, moisture wicking material.  Your feet will thank you!
